For agent developers, this creates fundamental uncertainty. Architectural decisions made today might not account for tomorrow's undisclosed capabilities. The solution isn't waiting for crumbs from big AI providers—it's building with open frameworks where the entire stack is inspectable and improvable. When the most powerful tools are always hidden, dependence on any single provider becomes a strategic vulnerability.
Agent builders need to prioritize interoperability and model-agnostic design patterns. Document those hidden API features [2], but don't architect around them. Assume any proprietary advantage will eventually disappear or change arbitrarily. The only sustainable approach is building systems where components can be swapped out as the landscape shifts—because it always does.
